Orthoselect

The Innovative 3D Modeling and 3D Printing Software for Dentistry and Orthodontics

The Challenge

Every patient’s mouth is unique. Because of this it makes it impossible for dentists and orthodontists to use a standard mold across the board.

Without a 3D view of their patients’ teeth it can be extremely challenging for dentists and orthodontists to create custom solutions.

Unfortunately, creating a 3D model for every patient is not only expensive but also quite time-consuming.

The Vision

The founder of Orthoselect was on a mission to facilitate orthodontists with treatment planning and bracket placement. To do so, the client wanted to create a desktop application that would enable accurate 3D models of the patients’ teeth to be made. They hoped for software that would copy and replicate the teeth of each patient in a way that would make it easier for orthodontists to treat patients more effectively.

The Scopic Solution

Scopic’s C++ developers coded this 3D modeling vision to life using OpenGL and VTK technologies, among others.

The software and models are used in treatment planning and in specialized cases, such as OrthoSelect’s digital indirect bonding service (DIBS) for both fixed braces and removable aligners. The easy-to-use interface empowers healthcare practitioners to use this application hassle-free.

Mouthguard

The Windows app
that digitizes mouthguard models

Taking mouthguards to the next, technological level.

The Mouthgurad Challenge Summarized

Dental injuries are among the most common types of injuries sustained during sports participation. Notably, an athlete is 60 times more likely to endure damage to the teeth when not wearing a mouthguard.
The challenge with mouthguards is that they are not one-size-fits-all. Wearing an uncomfortable mouthguard that is too bulky or too loose will not keep you adequately protected. Only custom mouthguards, made for your individual mouth structure, give you the protection and comfort you need when playing high-impact sports.

The Vision Behind the App

The company’s vision was to provide athletes in high-impact sports with the best possible protection for their teeth and gums. The mouthguard app was to be developed to digitize the process of creating this dental modeling software and replace the traditional methods used in creating molds of teeth. They turned to Scopic to develop the app that would both ensure the accuracy of dental impressions and help create custom-fit mouthpieces.

The Scopic Solution

Our software experts built a Windows desktop application from scratch to digitize the process of generating a mouthguard model. Using C++ and QT technologies, we developed the app for internal use. It is powered through the main database located in the company’s central server. We also made it possible for the final model to be exported as an STL file and its coordinates as a CSV file.

This powerful software is designed to scan the individual’s mouth, providing exact measurements for a precise, custom-fit mouthguard ‒ protecting athletes’ teeth and gums during high-impact sports.

Volumetrics

The app that determines the true quality of the trophies

Accurate and reliable.

main

The Hunter’s Challenge

In various areas, people get qualifications in order to measure and certify deer trophies. They get quite experienced and are able to see a lot of trophies each year while trying to ensure reliable results. However their measuring practices can become challenging due to several factors:

  • Accuracy – There are multiple data source techniques, complex equations and variables to be considered such as: Length, Weight, Volume, Inside Span, Colour, Pearling.
  • Convenience – Physical examination of each trophy poses geographical limitations.
  • Compatibility – There are 4 established scoring methodologies such as Boone & Crockett (B&C), Safari Club International (SCI), Los Cazadores, and VolumetricsTM.

The Vision Behind the App

The company aimed to provide a quick and reliable way to conclude results for trophy scoring. Certainly, their targeted users were hunters for deer, buffalo, wild sheep, and other animals that are legally allowed. They envisioned a way to integrate the perks of technology in an industry that is overly saturated with old-fashioned practices. This could only be done with robust algorithms that simplified the user experience and ensured accurate volume measurements. They reached out to Scopic to turn their idea into life.

The Scopic Solution

Scopic developed Volumetrics, a software platform that analyzes game animals (animal antlers or horns). The data is scanned and rendered into a unique digital 3D data file. Volumetrics algorithms map, measure, and record it in minute detail. Due to this analysis, the app can then accurately and consistently score any antlered or horned animal in any established scoring methodology, such as:

Boone & Crockett (B&C)

Safari Club International (SCI)

Los Cazadores

The app functionalities include:

Opening an animal antler trophy as a 3D model

Detecting and modifying Burr Planes

Auto-orientation of model

Opening an animal antler trophy as a 3D model

Generating a PDF Scoresheet for trophies

Exporting the model as GIF

In addition, Volumetrics algorithms produce an accurate total volume measurement of the scanned object—a revolutionary breakthrough for the outdoors industry.

3D Image Reclaimer

Software that helps you visualize the process of reclamation in real time

Envision the reclaiming process before you dig.

The 3D Image Reclaiming Challenge Summarized

Reclamation is the process of restoring land to its natural state after it’s been used to extract natural resources. This is typically done by filling in pits with substantial amounts of rock or cement, clay, and dirt.

Reclaiming land is an extensive process and is not a small undertaking. In order to fully understand how the reclamation process will take place at certain sites, companies are faced with the challenge of visualizing the entire operation before they get to work.

The Vision Behind the App

In order to visualize just how the reclamation operation would work, software was required to help companies understand and execute the job. The visionaries behind the 3D Image Reclaiming software realized this and conceived an application that would simulate the reclamation process. To help with this software, they reached out to Scopic.

The Scopic Solution

Our team of developers created the 3D Image Reclaimer application to help optimize the land reclaiming process by simulating it in real-time. The software processes information using 3D sensors around the land to refine and build the stockyard profiles.
It then reads and writes data using an ADS interface to produce 3D visualization of the reclaiming process for its users.
