ShadeWave

The platform that’s putting bright smiles on patients

Confidence for dentists, dental laboratories, and patients.

The Dental Shade Challenge Summarized

Shade matching can be one of the most difficult aspects of dental restoration. Dentists’ hard-work and effort can often be wasted if shade tabs are inconsistent and lighting is poor. Once a shade has been determined, communicating with dental labs can also be inefficient and ad hoc.

The Vision Behind the App

ShadeWave’s vision was to make patients happier by enabling dentists and labs to determine dental shades more accurately. Their team aimed to offer a secure, HIPAA-compliant environment for dental practices and labs to communicate in real-time. No software or special equipment required!

Their vision was concretized into a dental software idea which would mathematically determine and map a tooth’s shade, translucency and value from a digital camera image. Color correction would be done by analyzing a scientifically formulated reference target; without the need for shade tabs.

They approached Scopic’s custom healthcare software development professionals as they knew that working with an affordable, competent and reliable team would help make their idea come true.

The Scopic Solution

Scopic developed a shade matching software using advanced image processing algorithms to calculate tooth shade, translucency and value at the touch of a button. By doing so Dentists are now able to eliminate the guesswork from color mapping and save their patients time and money. This orthodontic software was designed to work with any clinical digital camera. This makes it user-friendly and affordable too. Scientifically formulated reference targets were incorporated into the built-in color correction and shade mapping technologies. This helps users avoid inconsistent shade tabs.

Moreover, approved as HIPAA compliant, ShadeWave’s cloud-based software allows dental practices to communicate with labs in real-time. They can also access data from anywhere to ensure prompt and accurate restorations. This software simplifies the process for everyone: from practitioners and patients to lab teams and ceramists.

Enabling robust functionalities for analyzing DICOM images

Display. Create. Modify.

The DICOM Handling Challenge Summarized

DICOM is a comprehensive specification of content and structure, that defines communications protocols for images in the medical industry. Such files contain:

  • Patient ID
  • Site of origin
  • Attributes
  • The image

Having full control over DICOM images is not that easy. Firstly, they can’t be viewed directly on a personal computer without a proper interpreter. Secondly, their file sizes are quite large. Thirdly, as their data is encoded within the header, it becomes challenging to completely analyze the patient’s state.

The Vision Behind the App

The company aimed to bring innovative improvements to the medical imaging market. They envisioned the application of image processing algorithms and 3D modeling in this industry, so all of DICOM’s features could be fully exploited.

In order to fulfill their goals, they got familiar with Scopic’s experience on such services and technologies, so we worked together towards a solution.

The Scopic Solution

This project takes advanced image and 3D data processing to analyze and display DICOM data. In their search for a reliable healthcare software development company, Quantiva hired Scopic. We helped implement some of the bigger features into their application, including:

Image Registration

3D Model Generation

Denoising

MPR Display

4D Data Support

Mouthguard

The Windows app
that digitizes mouthguard models

Taking mouthguards to the next, technological level.

The Mouthgurad Challenge Summarized

Dental injuries are among the most common types of injuries sustained during sports participation. Notably, an athlete is 60 times more likely to endure damage to the teeth when not wearing a mouthguard.
The challenge with mouthguards is that they are not one-size-fits-all. Wearing an uncomfortable mouthguard that is too bulky or too loose will not keep you adequately protected. Only custom mouthguards, made for your individual mouth structure, give you the protection and comfort you need when playing high-impact sports.

The Vision Behind the App

The company’s vision was to provide athletes in high-impact sports with the best possible protection for their teeth and gums. The mouthguard app was to be developed to digitize the process of creating this dental modeling software and replace the traditional methods used in creating molds of teeth. They turned to Scopic to develop the app that would both ensure the accuracy of dental impressions and help create custom-fit mouthpieces.

The Scopic Solution

Our software experts built a Windows desktop application from scratch to digitize the process of generating a mouthguard model. Using C++ and QT technologies, we developed the app for internal use. It is powered through the main database located in the company’s central server. We also made it possible for the final model to be exported as an STL file and its coordinates as a CSV file.

This powerful software is designed to scan the individual’s mouth, providing exact measurements for a precise, custom-fit mouthguard ‒ protecting athletes’ teeth and gums during high-impact sports.

Headhash

The fun app that realistically mixes up any part of your face

Have the urge to merge.

The Face Entertainment Challenge Summarized

People look for fun ways to pass their free time. When imagination and curiosity strike, one may randomly wonder how they would look given different features in their face.

People like guessing what their face would be like with or without wrinkles, a smaller nose, and maybe even blue eyes. They like the surprise element these entertaining guesses provide. However, they lose interest if the apps they find are unrealistic or hard to use.

The Vision Behind the App

Headhash wanted to build tool that would allow users to mix their face with their friends or family. As fun as that! Or even better: borrow Lady Gaga’s eyes with Justin Bieber’s head and mix them together.

Headhash aimed to create a fun solution that would include a combination of up to 4 face shots, shaken not stirred. That would provide the so-wanted realistic results. Moreover, they envisioned users loving to fix up their own pictures and create the perfect post for their social media.

The company’s entertainment app idea aligned with Scopic’s experience, and thus they sought our team’s application solutions.

The Scopic Solution

Scopic designed and created the Headhash app with face fusion functionalities. Its user-friendly and intuitive interface enables a fun experience for the users. All the functionalities are very easy to navigate. Headhash app lets you either use the iPhone camera or choose from the photo library. Once you get photos in, you can start creating “headhashes” in seconds:

Select one image for each facial feature – –head, eyes, nose,, and mouth.

Press “Make a Face”

And More!

Within seconds these features are hashed together in space to render a face montage.
Lastly, the users can also share the hashes with others to spread the fun experience.

BabyMaker main

The Baby Generating Challenge Summarized

Have you ever wondered what you and your partner’s future baby could look like? Or what a baby between Jennifer Aniston and David Schwimmer (Ross & Rachel) would actually look like? What if there was a way where you could visualize this?

The Vision Behind the App

The team at BabyMaker wondered these exact same things. They dreamed of a fun app where people could use pictures of ‘mom’ and ‘dad’ to envision just what these future ‘babies’ could look like one day without having to wait 9 months!

With other ‘face morphing’ apps and technologies on the market, the team at BabyMaker found them to be unreliable and unrealistic in the results that they produced. With this in mind, they sought out to create an app that would give their customer a legitimate idea of what the baby would look like.

BabyMaker vision

The Scopic Solution

The team at BabyMaker came to Scopic to brainstorm and bring their app idea to life.

Using machine learning development software, our team of experts set out to create new algorithms to help the user visualize a more practical version of their future baby using two pictures.

Using facial recognition technology, the BabyMaker app takes the two pictures submitted to create a completely new, and unique face ‒ your baby’s! Unlike other apps that produce cartoon-looking images, the BabyMaker app detects facial features from both pictures to generate a new, real-life picture based on the combination.

The great thing about the app and the technology used is that the pictures don’t have to be in the best quality in order to create a realistic picture as an end-result.

Automatically visualize the effects of teeth whitening procedures for patients

Quickly and accurately.

The Whitening Challenge Summarized

There is a lot of demand for teeth whitening. Some people have always wanted a beautiful, white smile. Others have noticed their teeth have gone yellow throughout the years due to coffee consumption, cigarette smoking, and so on. So, when they reach a dentist they want to see what taking this step fully means for them. And dentists, on the other hand, find it difficult to describe exactly how their teeth would look like after the process. Either way, patients may end up with unrealistic expectations and so unsatisfied with the job.

The Vision Behind the App

The company’s vision consisted of facilitating this step for dentists. They aimed to provide them with simple means to show patients what they would look like after the procedure was done. This would simplify their work, save time, improve customer satisfaction, and at the end effectively whiten the teeth with the desired shade.

The team sought a  custom healthcare software development company that would help them bring their vision into reality – that’s when they approached Scopic.

The Scopic Solution

Scopic worked together with the company and built Teeth Whitening software. This dental imaging software enables dentists to consult their patients properly and evaluate the most suitable treatments for each one. Behind-the-scenes of the application’s modern interface, Scopic custom developed a sophisticated algorithm utilizing the detection of facial features, including lip contours and tooth segmentation.
