Orthoselect

The Innovative 3D Modeling and 3D Printing Software for Dentistry and Orthodontics

The Challenge

Every patient’s mouth is unique. Because of this it makes it impossible for dentists and orthodontists to use a standard mold across the board.

Without a 3D view of their patients’ teeth it can be extremely challenging for dentists and orthodontists to create custom solutions.

Unfortunately, creating a 3D model for every patient is not only expensive but also quite time-consuming.

The Vision

The founder of Orthoselect was on a mission to facilitate orthodontists with treatment planning and bracket placement. To do so, the client wanted to create a desktop application that would enable accurate 3D models of the patients’ teeth to be made. They hoped for software that would copy and replicate the teeth of each patient in a way that would make it easier for orthodontists to treat patients more effectively.

The Scopic Solution

Scopic’s C++ developers coded this 3D modeling vision to life using OpenGL and VTK technologies, among others.

The software and models are used in treatment planning and in specialized cases, such as OrthoSelect’s digital indirect bonding service (DIBS) for both fixed braces and removable aligners. The easy-to-use interface empowers healthcare practitioners to use this application hassle-free.

ShadeWave

The platform that’s putting bright smiles on patients

Confidence for dentists, dental laboratories, and patients.

The Dental Shade Challenge Summarized

Shade matching can be one of the most difficult aspects of dental restoration. Dentists’ hard-work and effort can often be wasted if shade tabs are inconsistent and lighting is poor. Once a shade has been determined, communicating with dental labs can also be inefficient and ad hoc.

The Vision Behind the App

ShadeWave’s vision was to make patients happier by enabling dentists and labs to determine dental shades more accurately. Their team aimed to offer a secure, HIPAA-compliant environment for dental practices and labs to communicate in real-time. No software or special equipment required!

Their vision was concretized into a dental software idea which would mathematically determine and map a tooth’s shade, translucency and value from a digital camera image. Color correction would be done by analyzing a scientifically formulated reference target; without the need for shade tabs.

They approached Scopic’s custom healthcare software development professionals as they knew that working with an affordable, competent and reliable team would help make their idea come true.

The Scopic Solution

Scopic developed a shade matching software using advanced image processing algorithms to calculate tooth shade, translucency and value at the touch of a button. By doing so Dentists are now able to eliminate the guesswork from color mapping and save their patients time and money. This orthodontic software was designed to work with any clinical digital camera. This makes it user-friendly and affordable too. Scientifically formulated reference targets were incorporated into the built-in color correction and shade mapping technologies. This helps users avoid inconsistent shade tabs.

Moreover, approved as HIPAA compliant, ShadeWave’s cloud-based software allows dental practices to communicate with labs in real-time. They can also access data from anywhere to ensure prompt and accurate restorations. This software simplifies the process for everyone: from practitioners and patients to lab teams and ceramists.

Mouthguard

The Windows app
that digitizes mouthguard models

Taking mouthguards to the next, technological level.

The Mouthgurad Challenge Summarized

Dental injuries are among the most common types of injuries sustained during sports participation. Notably, an athlete is 60 times more likely to endure damage to the teeth when not wearing a mouthguard.
The challenge with mouthguards is that they are not one-size-fits-all. Wearing an uncomfortable mouthguard that is too bulky or too loose will not keep you adequately protected. Only custom mouthguards, made for your individual mouth structure, give you the protection and comfort you need when playing high-impact sports.

The Vision Behind the App

The company’s vision was to provide athletes in high-impact sports with the best possible protection for their teeth and gums. The mouthguard app was to be developed to digitize the process of creating this dental modeling software and replace the traditional methods used in creating molds of teeth. They turned to Scopic to develop the app that would both ensure the accuracy of dental impressions and help create custom-fit mouthpieces.

The Scopic Solution

Our software experts built a Windows desktop application from scratch to digitize the process of generating a mouthguard model. Using C++ and QT technologies, we developed the app for internal use. It is powered through the main database located in the company’s central server. We also made it possible for the final model to be exported as an STL file and its coordinates as a CSV file.

This powerful software is designed to scan the individual’s mouth, providing exact measurements for a precise, custom-fit mouthguard ‒ protecting athletes’ teeth and gums during high-impact sports.

The Dental Impressions Challenge

Digital impressions are the recent technology used for capturing a replica of a patient’s mouth. With such dental 3d software, dentists can generate a virtual model of the mouth’s hard and soft tissues. These replicas usually have higher accuracy than molds and can be sent to labs where dentures, bridges, and retainers can be created accurately and quickly. Digital impressions also provide a more comfortable patient experience compared to using traditional mold material.

The Vision Behind the App

ByteMe is an exclusive teledentistry platform that unites a nationwide network of licensed dentists and orthodontics. ByteMe was looking for a reliable software development partner to build a new 3D application for their platform. They envisioned an app that would store and display 3D teeth impressions and help doctors oversee dental treatments in patients looking to straighten their teeth. They turned to Scopic to turn their vision into reality.

ShadeWave Mobile

Professional Software That Optimizes Camera Performance for Dentists

Simple. Efficient. Accessible from the touch of a button.

The Dental Image Challenge

Taking high-quality pictures of a patient’s teeth to use in shade processing cases can be a challenge. Finding secure ways to share these images with colleagues or sending them to your office to store the files and keep the data safe can also be difficult for dentists. Using an iPhone to take a snap is not the best choice: the colors don’t come out right. On top of that, dentists don’t want to keep these files on their personal phones – they can easily get lost and mixed up, making the process of identifying each patient’s images tricky.

There has to be an easier way.

The Vision Behind the App

ShadeWave’s mobile app for iOS users was created on a mission to simplify the challenge for dentists. The founder had a vision of creating an app that would instruct the iPhone camera to produce its very best performance for macro and portrait dental or medical photography. There would be three modes optimizing: Shade, Portrait and Intraoral. So he reached out to Scopic to build a mobile app that would help dentists store files, include shade tabs in the pictures, and create cases for each client – all from the convenience of their phone.

The Scopic Solution

ShadeWave joined forces with Scopic, well-known in the industry as a healthcare software development company, to build, design and market iOS mobile app for dentists. Since the solution was very specific, software like dental photography, intraoral photography and dental shade matching were used during the process of creation. Some of our activities for creation this dental imaging software involved:

iOS Application Development

SWIFT System Integration

Native-English Copywriting

Responsive Design

UI Design

UX Design

We then continued working with ShadeWave to enhance the user experience by designing a user-friendly interface. Later on, we integrated a fix with voice commands, to make the whole process of dental and medical image creation even easier and faster than before.

Teeth Whitening

Automatically visualize the effects of teeth whitening procedures for patients

Quickly and accurately.

The Whitening Challenge Summarized

There is a lot of demand for teeth whitening. Some people have always wanted a beautiful, white smile. Others have noticed their teeth have gone yellow throughout the years due to coffee consumption, cigarette smoking, and so on. So, when they reach a dentist they want to see what taking this step fully means for them. And dentists, on the other hand, find it difficult to describe exactly how their teeth would look like after the process. Either way, patients may end up with unrealistic expectations and so unsatisfied with the job.

The Vision Behind the App

The company’s vision consisted of facilitating this step for dentists. They aimed to provide them with simple means to show patients what they would look like after the procedure was done. This would simplify their work, save time, improve customer satisfaction, and at the end effectively whiten the teeth with the desired shade.

The team sought a  custom healthcare software development company that would help them bring their vision into reality – that’s when they approached Scopic.

The Scopic Solution

Scopic worked together with the company and built Teeth Whitening software. This dental imaging software enables dentists to consult their patients properly and evaluate the most suitable treatments for each one. Behind-the-scenes of the application’s modern interface, Scopic custom developed a sophisticated algorithm utilizing the detection of facial features, including lip contours and tooth segmentation. The Dental Model Challenge Summarized

Time and accuracy are two key factors that make the modeling process in dentistry quite challenging. The process includes:

  • Taking measurements
  • Creating handmade models
  • Going through iterations for the models
  • Testing the results on patients

The crown models, especially, need a high level of detail to ensure a 100% match. This manual process not only consumes a lot of time but doesn’t guarantee success. This leads to increased expenses for dentists and reduced customer satisfaction.

The Vision Behind the App

The company’s vision was to alleviate these struggles for professionals. They aimed to create a platform that would not require dentists and lab experts to work on the models manually. They sought out quality custom healthcare software development partners to provide accurate high-level orthodontics design application. They contacted Scopic and worked towards a solution for a 3D technology.
