Orthoselect

The Innovative 3D Modeling and 3D Printing Software for Dentistry and Orthodontics

The Challenge

Every patient’s mouth is unique. Because of this it makes it impossible for dentists and orthodontists to use a standard mold across the board.

Without a 3D view of their patients’ teeth it can be extremely challenging for dentists and orthodontists to create custom solutions.

Unfortunately, creating a 3D model for every patient is not only expensive but also quite time-consuming.

The Vision

The founder of Orthoselect was on a mission to facilitate orthodontists with treatment planning and bracket placement. To do so, the client wanted to create a desktop application that would enable accurate 3D models of the patients’ teeth to be made. They hoped for software that would copy and replicate the teeth of each patient in a way that would make it easier for orthodontists to treat patients more effectively.

The Scopic Solution

Scopic’s C++ developers coded this 3D modeling vision to life using OpenGL and VTK technologies, among others.

The software and models are used in treatment planning and in specialized cases, such as OrthoSelect’s digital indirect bonding service (DIBS) for both fixed braces and removable aligners. The easy-to-use interface empowers healthcare practitioners to use this application hassle-free.

Subtractive 3D Printing

The app that’s giving engineers full control in automated manufacturing

Production efficiency. Added Value. Better Quality.

The Automation Challenge Summarized

When it comes to manufacturing, a lot of process complexities may emerge at any given time. Taking a manual approach to finding solutions can be both time-consuming and highly inefficient.

Accurately determining the inputs of manufacturing processes requires costly research and development. Company personnel have to do a lot of physical testing to all units until the right model or prototype is achieved.

As such, CNC machinists oversee specific and dedicated software to create parts, tools and other mass-produced items. However, if this step is not executed or facilitated properly, it can lead to the breaking of another tool, and thus the whole system.

The Vision Behind the Process

Subtractive procedures are generally utilized in assembling or manufacturing processes. Material gets ‘subtracted’ from a roughly molded beginning part to accomplish the final shapes and desired measurements required. With years of experience in the manufacturing industry, our client wanted to create a highly efficient solution for his CNC machinists. He hoped to ensure the delivery of more robust machine parts which would have higher resistance and smoother finalizations in comparison to the alternative: additive printing.

So, he contacted Scopic, due to our former experience in CNC software development, with the purpose of effectively automating their manufacturing processes.

The Scopic Solution

Scopic’s expertise in Subtractive 3D Printing led to the development of an advanced tool for the automated creation of CNC machine paths for parts manufacturing. This application uses volume modelling so the user can see the design of the model at any stage before sending tool paths to their machine. This game-changing piece of software has given engineers full control over the manufacturing process. It has also reduced the risk of human error that often leads to broken tools or malfunctioning parts.

By tapping into the power of manufacturing software development, this application is significantly increasing the efficiency of the engineers who create paths for cnc machines.

3D Image Reclaimer

Software that helps you visualize the process of reclamation in real time

Envision the reclaiming process before you dig.

The 3D Image Reclaiming Challenge Summarized

Reclamation is the process of restoring land to its natural state after it’s been used to extract natural resources. This is typically done by filling in pits with substantial amounts of rock or cement, clay, and dirt.

Reclaiming land is an extensive process and is not a small undertaking. In order to fully understand how the reclamation process will take place at certain sites, companies are faced with the challenge of visualizing the entire operation before they get to work.

The Vision Behind the App

In order to visualize just how the reclamation operation would work, software was required to help companies understand and execute the job. The visionaries behind the 3D Image Reclaiming software realized this and conceived an application that would simulate the reclamation process. To help with this software, they reached out to Scopic.

The Scopic Solution

Our team of developers created the 3D Image Reclaimer application to help optimize the land reclaiming process by simulating it in real-time. The software processes information using 3D sensors around the land to refine and build the stockyard profiles.
It then reads and writes data using an ADS interface to produce 3D visualization of the reclaiming process for its users.
